Hi! I’m Rebecca, a novice genealogist who is fascinated by family history and the connections we can make by researching what are ancestors did and why. Along with my passion for uncovering the past, I love to cook for my friends and family! I believe that drive came from my grandmother and great grandmothers who undoubtedly were amazing cooks!
Welcome to a website that combines my love for cooking and genealogy. Let’s bring generations of people together through the love of food.
Why “Grandma’s Bread?”
My grandma Bernice was a baker and whenever you came to visit you’d be sure to be sent home with some of her famous applesauce bread or cookies. Grandma’s kitchen wasn’t the fanciest or largest kitchen, but it always had a bowl of fruit on the kitchen table, cookies in the cookie jar, and pie frozen in the freezer ready to be used. After Grandma died in 2009, I went on a search to get some of her beloved recipes. Luckily, my mom had a collection in her recipe box but the recipes where not created by Grandma or in her handwriting.
During winter of 2013, I asked my Aunt Mary about family history and grandma’s recipes. She told me she had an old cookbook grandma had made herself with a typewriter. Some of the recipes were in her handwriting too. Aunt Mary let me take it home, where I copied each page (over 400 pages both sides!!) of her precious recipes. I put all the recipes into a new book. I also made four other copies for my female cousins.
My goal is to upload most of the recipes onto this website to share with the rest of the family.
Even if you aren’t family, please know you are loved and cherished like family! Thank you and enjoy these family recipes from our house to yours.
Blessings!
